    阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
On a Friday night, a poor young artist stood at the gate of the New York railway station, playing his violin. The music was so great that many people stopped to put some money into the hat of the young man.
The next day, the young artist came to the same place, and put his hat on the ground gracefully. Different from the day before, he took out a large piece of paper and laid it under his hat. Then he began to play the violin. It sounded more pleasant than ever.
Soon he was surrounded with people who were attracted by the words on that paper. It said, “Last night, a gentleman named George Sang put an important thing into my hat by mistake. Please come to claim(认领)it soon.”
After about half an hour, a middle-aged man rushed through the crowd to the violinist and said, “Yes, it’s you. I knew that you were an honest man and would certainly come here.” The young violinist asked calmly, “Are you Mr. George Sang?” The man nodded. The violinist asked, “Did you lose something?” “It’s a lottery ticket(彩票),” said the man. The violinist took out a lottery ticket on which George Sang’s name was seen. “Is it?” he asked. George nodded and took the lottery ticket and kissed it, then danced with the violinist.
The violinist was a student at an arts college and had planned to attend advanced studies in Vienna. Later his classmate asked the violinist, “At that time you needed money to pay the tuition (学费)and you had to play the violin in the railway station every day to make money. Why didn’t you keep the lottery ticket for yourself?” The violinist said, “Although I don’t have much money, I live happily. But if I lose honesty I won’t be happy forever.”
Through our lives, we can gain a lot and lose so much. But being honest should always be with us.
21. What did the  young artist do at the railway station on Friday?
   A. He played the violin to make some money.
   B. He waited for the train to Vienna.
   C. He came to buy a train ticket to Vienna.

22. Which of the following statements is true according to the words on the paper?
   A. The hat belonged to George Sang.
 B. George Sang had lost something important.
   C. The young artist needed George Sang’s advice.
   D. The young artist wanted some money from George Sang.
23. From this article, we can learn that ______.
   A. we should share something valuable with others
   B. playing the violin can make you honest
C. it’s acceptable to keep the lottery if you find one
   D. being honest is very important to us

B
A recent documentary produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has caused a stir in China and in the UK.
The documentary, titled Are Our Kids Tough Enough? focuses on five Chinese teachers who are sent to teach 50 UK teens at a school in Hampshire.
The teachers instruct the students for a month. The pupils are then tested, and the results are compared to the ones of those who have continued in the regular UK education system. The idea is to see if the Chinese method improves academic performance.
The Chinese teachers use their own teaching methods but receive strong resistance from the students. A clip from the documentary online shows some problems, with Chinese teachers calling their students lazy and lacking in discipline, while the students say the high pressure and harsh teachers are driving them crazy.
This has aroused a new debate in both China and the UK, with some arguing the teenagers need more regulation and discipline. Others say Chinese methods encourage rote learning(死记硬背) instead of independent thinking. For instance, Chinese language teachers should do more than pass on knowledge about words and characters. They should inspire students, helping them feel the sentiment from Chinese literature. This is a higher level of teaching.
Yang Dongping, dean of the 21st Century Education Research Institute, says, “The Chinese teaching methods are designed to strictly train the majority. Foreign teaching methods, however, are more natural and relaxing, and designed to inspire students’ interest in learning. Education methods are based on culture. That is why a successful education method in one place may not work that well when simply ‘transplanted’ into another place.”
Yang Dongping says, “The documentary does reflect some problems rooted in traditional Chinese teaching methods. Nobel prize winner, Yang Zhenning, gave a very fair comment on this issue. He said the Chinese-style education method works for most ordinary qualified students effectively, helping them reach high standards. However, it may weaken the training for high-potential outstanding students.”
24. Why are five Chinese teachers sent to teach 50 UK teens?
A. To test the intelligence of the UK teens.
B. To help the school improve their teaching efficiency.
C. To do some practical research into the UK education system.
D. To test the effectiveness of Chinese teaching methods.
25. What’s the meaning of the underlined word “harsh” in the fourth paragraph?
A. Extremely strict   B. Quite friendly   C. Rather cold   D. Very attractive
26. According to Yang Dongping, Chinese teaching methods ______.
A. fit all countries           B. could be improved
C. are the best in the world        D. are not as good as British methods

Ashley Power’s mother bought a computer for her when she was eight. 第四部分  写作(共一节,满分25分)
读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
He met her at a party. She was so young and beautiful; many guys were after her, but nobody paid any attention to him. After the party, he invited her for coffee. She was surprised, but so as n ot to appear rude, she went along.
As they sat in a nice cafe, he was too nervous to say anything and she felt embarrassed. Suddenly, he asked the waiter, “Could you please give me some salt? I’d like to put it in my coffee.”
They stared at him. He turned red, but when the salt came, he put it in his coffee and drank. Curious, she asked, “Why salt with coffee?” He hesitated for a while before replying in a word-after-word way, “When I was a little boy, I lived near the sea. I liked playing on the sea. I could feel it salty, like salty coffee. Now every time I drink it, I think of my childhood and my hometown. I miss it and my parents, who are still there.”
She was deeply moved. A man who can admit that he’s homesick must love his home and care about his family. He must be responsible. She talked too, about her faraway hometown, her childhood, her family. That was the start to their love story.
They continued to date. She found that he met all her requirements. He was tolerant, kind, warm and careful. Deep down, she felt lucky for accepting his first invitation out of politeness, otherwise she would have missed such a remarkable man. They later dated with each other in almost all the cafes in the city, where she would always take the lead to tell the waiter to get him some salt.
As all the fairy tales go, the princess and prince get married and lead a happy life ever since. And the story would have ended with the husband passing away after 40 years of happy life, nothing special if it were not for the letter the husband left for her before his death.

【高二英语听力文稿】
Text 1:
M: I’m going to visit my brother in Seattle. I told him to meet me at the airport at 5:00. See, we’ll reach there very soon.
W: Yes, in 20 minutes.
Text 2:
M: I really need your help on my chemistry paper.
W: OK, I’ll help you with the search, but after that you’re on your own.
Text 3:
M: Professor Goodwin, I wasn’t in class yesterday because I had a cold. Could you give me a make-up test?
W: Of course. Come to my office at four o’clock, and we’ll do it then.
Text 4:
W: I’m thinking of starting my own tour company?
M: Tour company? But you can’t find your way to your own apartment!
Text 5:
M: Can you bill me later?
W: I’m sorry, I can’t. You’re a new patient, so the fee for the first examination is due now. You can pay in cash, by credit card or by check.
M: Well, OK then.
Text 6:
W: Someone’s just stolen my purse. I left it on this table while I went to the restroom … and when I came back, I saw this guy running out of the café. He was about 17 with short blond hair. I noticed he had a scar on his forehead.
M: OK, madam. I’ll call the police now. But I’m afraid we aren’t responsible for your loss although it took place here.
W: I know.
Text 7:
W: What about having a swimming pool, a dance studio, outdoor tennis courts, and …
M: Hold on a minute, you don’t need outdoor tennis courts. Only four people can use a tennis court. Wouldn’t it be better to have two all-weather soccer fields? More students can play.
W: OK, so let’s have the indoor courts for when the weather’s bad. I think there should be a children’s pool as well as a swimming pool.
M: Well, I think a swimming pool will be enough. What do you think about having basketball courts?
W: Yes, we definitely need basketball courts.
Text 8:
M: Hi, Kim. Why didn’t you come to Alex’s party?
W: What? But the party’s tonight, isn’t it?
M: Oh Kim! It was last night! Saturday, not Sunday!
W: I can’t believe I missed it! Oh well. How was it?
M: Well, I ate a lot. Alex’s mum made some great pizza. And we played some computer games. I took no interest in that. And the music was terrible. But the cake was amazing! It was actually two cakes, one on top of the other.
W: Wow! Did the party finish late?
M: I think so. I left at ten but Alex said most people didn’t leave until half past eleven.
W: Why did you leave early?
M: My parents couldn’t pick me up and I didn’t want to walk home. So I had to take the ten fifteen bus home.
Text 9:
W: Martin, we really must decide where we want to go this summer. I’ve always wanted to visit France. Why don’t we drive through France the first week and then, down, into Italy for the second?
M: That’s a great idea. When we get to the bottom of Italy we could go on the ferry to one of the Greek islands.
W: But if we stay in the north of Italy, we could drive into Switzerland and see that for our third week.
M: OK. Let’s go up into Switzerland and then we could drive back into Italy and continue driving down to southern Italy where we could catch the ferry to one of the Greek islands for our fourth week. I’d love to go to Rhodes.
W: Then from Rhodes, how about getting another ferry and spending our fifth week in Turkey? From there we could drive back up through ex-Yugoslavia, into France and then into England.
M: Before coming back into England there are Germany and Austria, too. But I don’t think we can see all these places in six weeks, can we?
W: No, not really. So let’s spend our last week on the west coast of England, driving around Cornwall.
M: It all sounds wonderful.
Text 10
W: OK, everyone. Today’s presentation is by Nathan. Start when you’re ready, Nathan.
M: OK. Hello, everyone. Our presentation is called A smaller world and it’s about technology and cultural change. The talk focuses on technology that makes the world smaller. First of all, can you imagine life without cars and planes? Before the invention of these means of transport, people could only travel by train or boat, and they couldn’t travel very fast. Now, with cars and planes, we can travel farther and faster. Some people even live in one country and work in another because they can fly to work. Before we move onto the next type of technology, it is important to remember that planes and cars do have their disadvantages. They can be dangerous and they cause a lot of pollution, and this also changes the way we live.
OK. Second, communications technology, like television and the Internet, certainly makes the world smaller. We stay in our house or office, but we can see news and shows from all around the world. With the Internet, we can write and chat to people all over the world. But nowadays, people spend more time using the technology than they do meeting other people. We’re spending more and more of our time in our houses, talking to strangers in other countries, than we are with our friends and neighbors. My grandmother could name all the people in her street, but I don’t even know the names of my neighbors.
W: OK. Thank you, Nathan, that was great.
